In order to provide individualized care tailored to your needs, the Total Body Works Medical team first completes a comprehensive physical examination. Our team of medical experts take the time to listen to your concerns and take a detailed medical history to gain understanding about how your injury came about and how it affects your daily functioning. A comprehensive physical examination can help to better pinpoint where your pain is coming from and develop a care plan.
In addition to a comprehensive physical examination, diagnostic tests such as Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NSC) help our team to pinpoint the specific muscles or nerves that are causing your pain. EMG and NSC measure electric current and voltage to specific which muscles and nerves are affected and understand the severity of the injury. These cutting-edge diagnostic tools allow our team to come to an accurate diagnosis develop a care plan that is tailored to you.
Physical Therapy is often the first treatment recommended to patients, as it can often help patients regain function without having to undergo invasive surgery. Our Physical Therapists can teach you exercises and stretches to enhance strength, reduce rigidity, regain balance and make your day-to-day activities easier. If surgery is necessary, physical therapy can improve recovery outcomes and get you back to your life faster. Physical therapy is an effective and non-invasive way to treat the root cause of your injury, relieve pain and recover from your injury.
When Physical Therapy is not enough to reduce pain or is difficult to complete due to the severity of pain, Epidural Steroid Injections (ESIs) can be used to manage neck, hip, and back pain. While Physical Therapy treats the root cause of injury, ESIs relieve pain to allow patients the comfort and mobility they need to complete the therapeutic exercises and treatments required for healing damaged nerves, tendons, muscles, or joints. In combination with other treatments, ESIs are a minimally invasive procedure that provide rapid short-term relief from chronic pain and injuries.
Another common treatment used in combination with Physical Therapy is Trigger Point Injections or Soft Tissue Injections. Painful knots or muscle spasms can form in the arms, legs, back and neck when the muscles can’t relax. Trigger Point Injections provide pain relief by decreasing inflammation and muscle tension.
When pain is related to arthritis or joint pain, Joint Injections can be used to reduce inflammation, regain flexibility, and reduce swelling. In this minimally invasive procedure, a steroid medication is injected into the affected joint to provide rapid pain relief. Joint Injections are frequently used for pain or inflammation in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, foot, or knee.
If you were injured at work and your condition permanently impairs your ability to work, our team may evaluate you through physical evaluation to determine the severity of your impairment. Each injured area is rated based on the severity of impairment, which is known as the impairment rating. Based on the impairment rating our team provides, New York State will determine the amount of monetary compensation you are eligible to receive. Our experienced team can help you navigate this process to ensure you receive the help you need.
